Interior Design Ideas Using Flowers Indoors

Welcome back my little gardenia! I have more interior design ideas for your using flowers, whether here in chilly Philadelphia - or out in sunny CA. It's nice to have you back with me for even more ruminations on flowers. As the next round of holidays approach and you're trying to give the house a fresh lift, remember, ...decorating with flowers in our interiors is such an easy way to add great splash to any room. But...but you have to be smart about it.
So here are a few more great ideas for decorating with flowers indoors to give you a high end, maximum impact punch. Let's put these little floral treasure work-horses to work in our interiors.

#1. For Budget Conscious. Find a great vase with a small opening or 'neck.' These do not require as many flowers as those with splayed necks as you can see pictured here. Great on an end table or sofa table.

#2. Don't discount "Little". Trust me on this. You can do a smashing arrangement in a 4-5" tall glass container - square or round. The trick is to cut your stems short, all one length - and really pack them in there. Very high end look and great for coffee tables, kitchen counters, office desks or by the bedside. For formal dinner tables, try to short and packed arrangements on either side of a tray of candles. A nice low centerpiece...

#3. No Brainer and Great Looking. For that luncheon or dinner party - just float a few blossoms in a glass bowl. Cut off stems completely. Add candles nearby and the look is incandescent and marvelous. These cheery sunflowers are perfect for an afternoon gathering or to top off a kitchen island. Do in red Gerberer daisies and you have a holiday look.

#4. Charm and Low Cost. Do you own any china tea cups? I have a wonderful collection from my mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and aunt. The kids and I use them on cold nights this time of year for a nice cup of tea after dinner sometimes. But just one tea cup full of flowers looks wonderful too. Pack a favorite tea cup and saucer with a single color bloom. If possible - coordinate the bloom color with the tea cup or design on the tea cup. Requires very few blooms - but you must remember to frequently refill the water. Lovely in a powder room or in the guest room for a holiday house guest.

    5. Vase Selection Pointer. Try to be mindful of vase shape relative to the thing it is on...Rectangular and square vases look wonderful on rectangular tables. Both round or square work well on round tables.

Do feel free to post some of your favorite flower suggestions here for all of my readers. And so - for now - that's the wrap up on flowers from here in Bucks County, PA. Everyone has holiday greens on the brain right now... Not this girl...I'm a flower lover no matter the season.

Smart Decorating with Flowers - Part 1

Designing with flowers in our interiors can be such a winner - provided that you're smart about it. As the days are getting colder and shorter out here in Yardley, PA...my garden is starting to 'cool off and shorten' too. Though the change in seasons is always welcome, the looming flower-less days don't thrill me. But - that's why heaven invented florists!

So as all of our gardens wind down for their pending slumber...let's 'change' the state of things at home with some smart design with flowers for our interiors. Here are some great tips for flowers at home that are winners:

#1. For seasonal floral beauty that is simple - Go with all white. You can even immerse paper white bulbs into clear containers of water with pebbles or marbles - and you'll 'feel' the breath of spring in winter white for a nice long while...surely longer than the a cut bouquet would last. For maximum impact, do a set of 3 or 5 containers and gather in 1 location - better yet - on a tray.

#2 For non green thumbers who like the idea above. Ditch the paper white bulbs..and buy all white carnations or all white lilies and arrange in a tea pot or simple small vase. If using a short container, cut stems short so the total floral 'head' you create looks very lush.I will share that carnations are one of my least favorite flowers - but in all white and bursting out of a soup terrine - they can be elegant.

#3. For maximum impact. Go monochromatic...that's fancy-shpancy-designer-speak for 'single color." Or - do 2 analogous colors...red/orange, blue/violet. Somehow - a multi-color bouquet from the Yardley McCaffrey's food store looks like an inexpensive ditty - but use those same dollars at the food store to purchase flowers in just 2 colors - or all one color and you have a winner. Pictured right is an example of a 2 color arrangement. Consdier simply you can do a single-color arrangement by picking up a few red gerberer daisies, red tulips and red carnations (!! carnations again??), pack those lushly into a container - and...wow.

#4. For seasonal sparkle. Use mirrored containers or place your container on mirrored trays.

#5. For people with no-time and no-patience...Potted orchids all the way. Orchids are high-end looking and elegant, always. Check out local big box centers like Home Depot or Lowes. I often see these wonderful potted exotics here for about $20. Place store bought container directly into another more decorative container Turn these potted beauties into center pieces by doing not less than 3 moving through the center of your dining room table. For extra spalsh, place on top of sheer ruched fabric.

Do you have any favorite floral tips to share? Post a comment! I'd love to hear from you. Look for more floral tips next week! Happy November my little flower bud!

Eliminate Mold with Smart Bathroom Construction

So, I hope you're not eating right now. This topic has some yuk factor as it is. And..I added some photos to the post because you told me you'd like more photos in my posts. :)

I recently attended an important presentation about the fight against mold in construction for bathrooms - and so wanted to include this important info for those of you about to undertake a bath reno at this time as many of my clients are. If you're like most of my clients, your head is dancing with sugarplum visions of beautiful new cabinetry, dreamy tile and the perfect luxury counters. Well, snap out of it Cinderella. Before you can go to that 'ball' - ...we have make sure you and your Prince Charming are safe in that stunning new bathroom installation. So you'll want to be sure to discuss the topic of of mold fighting building standards with your builder before you sign on the dotted line and spend your hard earned dollars.
How do we build a tile or stone construct to eliminate mold and mildew in the discussion? This includes eliminating "potential" mold.

There are 3 types of mold you must be concerned about:
    1) Potential Mold (mold that could come one day)
    2) Superficial Mold (topical - you're probably familiar with it)
    3) Existing chronic mold - which means the mold has gotten into drywall which it is good neither for your health nor your home value.

It's important to understand that mold is a living organism and is ever present. It can grow on virtually any organic surface but to thrive, mold requires 3 things: moisture, an organic food source and oxygen.

Now, stone, tile and cement base are NOT food sources for mold and they are in themselves not mold magnets. So why do you see mold on them? The causes of chronic mold in the bath are usually: inadequate construction detailing, lack of proper water proofing, the use of organic adhesives in a wet area and/or the use of inappropriate tile backer.

Water proofing properly is huge to your success in the fight against mold. Be sure too that your builder is using setting products in the bath that are mold inhibiting...most say waterproofing...but for better protection, go for mold inhibiting a well. Also important to understand is that drywall and even gboard are not waterproof! The better choice is something called Cement-Backer-Board. It's a dry-wall like product designed specifically to go behind ceramic tile. It may cost more in labor and materials, (It's said to be more challenging to work with) but the long term payoff is there.

Equally critical in the mold-war as keeping moisture out of the construct - is insuring adequate ventilation in the bath. After all, showers are wet. That's what we like about them. Thus proper ventilation of all that steam is critical, otherwise superficial mold can grow. Do be sure to discuss with your design/build team if you need to add ventilation in the bath prior to construction. It may raise your costs...but you don't want to deal with mold rampant dry wall or tile 5 years after your dream bathroom is installed.
And finally - do be careful how you clean in the bath area. Some cleaners have organic compounds (ie...lemon oil....) which is a problem if you recall that mold needs organic compounds as a food source. pH neutral cleaning products are ideal, but DO be sure that they are safe for tile or your stone. Some pH neutral cleaners could be a real disaster for tile/stone so do check for tile/stone safety.

Room Interior Design

Basic Recipe For Interior Design In Any Room
    By Lisa M Smith

Room Interior DesignThink of room design like a movie. Movies have numerous components to keep us watching, if a director miss-casts the star, the plot gets lost or doesn't make sense we aren't interested. The same thing happens in a room. Every successful interior has component parts based on the following design principles which make up the room. If one of the principles is ignored the room will fail.

Texture: The physical or visual texture and item has plays an important role in design. Successful rooms feature a mix of textures, for example not all smooth or not all thick and nubby.

Color: All rooms have a color scheme based on an object (artwork), fabric or rug which is used as a roadmap to the colors allowable in the room. Something needs to define the relationship of the colors used in every room.

Scale: Scale relates to the absolute size and shape of items, visually or texturally.

Style: What is the vibe of how do you want a room to feel? Traditional, contemporary, mass-market, light and airy, cottage, French, etc.

Balance: Balance is a fundamental of life that everyone seeks, consciously or subconsciously. This makes us comfortable, gives us stability, reduces stress and gives us peace. This is the most important element to achieve when creating or changing the design of a room.

    * Formal: Two equally sized sofas sitting exactly opposite one another in a room. One item or area is the mirror image of another.
    * Informal: This is a bit trickier as it involves both the actual item and the "feel" of its presence in a space. Two equally sized chairs might sit across from one long sofa, the two chairs taking up pretty much the same physical space as the sofa.

Rhythm: This involves how the idea of movement unifies a space. One could use contrasts of light and dark or tall and short; repetition of similar objects; progression to or from a focal point; or how transitions of the implied shapes of pieces of furniture flow to one another.

Focal Point: Rooms or conversation areas generally have a focal point or area of emphasis. Too many focal points or "important" items make a room disorganized and unsettling.

Relationships: Every room tells a story using the previous principles. Before placing any item in a room or choosing a wall color one needs to consider how all the components of a room relate to one another. Consider the physical or color relationship of one item to another as well as the intellectual relationship.

This may sound like a lot but often for many people certain principles are intuitive. For whatever reason (engineering gene) men are readily able to detect balance. They may not articulate it as such but when they notice a room is off, it often has to do with balance. Equally though balance is the one component women have a tough time with executing, the shopping gene makes us falsely feel the fix is "more".

Intuitive or not all these principles can be easily understood to use as your own recipe for interior design success. Interior designers use these everyday to create beautiful rooms people enjoy. Use these interior design principles to create the movie (story) of your home interiors.

Screen Door Accessories

One of the greatest accessories that someone can improve their home with is almost certainly a screen door. They come in many different variations, each with very specific benefits and perks, all in a very inexpensive cost, affordable by even the most frugal of spenders. They can allow you to work uninterrupted in your garage, free from the perils associated with bugs and other flying insects, as well as allowing cool breezes to enter your home without leaving the door wide open which can result in a small child or pet leaving the premises unintended.

Now that you’re up to speed and fully understand the many gains associated with these products, you are now ready to be primed on one of the best accessories for your screen door, the screen door latch. Latches on your screen door are very beneficial because they lock the door shut and prevent it from opening and slamming shut whenever someone passes to the entryway. It is also possible that the door will remain shut during windstorms, preventing it from slamming back and forth, a common problem which will result in a damaged door, as well as an unnecessary bill to replace it.

The most important reason to consider purchasing a proper latch is almost certainly the benefit that allows you to let your children and small toddlers play in the room, without fear that they will open the door and go outside unattended. The latch on the door can be installed at such a high level of height that the children will not be able to reach it and let themselves out accidentally. This will allow the parent to get things done with their back turned and not fear that their children will escape outside and get hurt. Ease of mind is in the highest spectrum of benefits in nearly any product, specifically a screen door where children will be playing around.

Another great perk to this kind of latch is the fact that it is not very expensive, which is very beneficial because during this deep recession people are not willing to spend extra money on things they view as unnecessary. Fortunately, you can buy a great working latch for between $5.00 and $25.00, the paltry amount that anyone should be able to afford, even in this economy. Even so, safety for your children is paramount and definitely something you can set aside a cheap $25.00 for.

All in all, screen door latches are an amazing accessory that any screen door owner should look into purchasing. If you have small children, or a variety of pets which will be playing in the same room as the screen door, this is an excellent purchase which will raise the security levels for all small and animals and children alike. Being able to leave them unattended for short periods of time without having to worry about whether not they’re trying to escape is a very beneficial feeling, and given the fact that these latches work on all kinds of doors, including wood screen doors, the overall benefit reaches a wider target.

Natural gas also may be an extremely affordable method to heat your garage, although special care needs to be taken to ensure the garage is vented appropriately if you choose to make use of natural gas. Additionally, you will need to make sure there’s a natural gas pipeline available in the area. Hot water garage heaters are very nice because they just don’t count on any type flammable fuel. Residential Interior Design

Distinctive Features of Residential Interior Design
    By Richard Mitchell

When someone talks about residential interior design, they are referring to a number of factors incorporated into any decor. Factors include minor features such as floor coverings, lighting and windows treatments as well as major features such as furniture and wall decor. When all of these are blended together to produce a coordinated and harmonious result, a pleasing interior is achieved. Any one factor that does not mesh well with the others can throw a whole room off. The principles are the same for both residential and commercial interior design yet the purpose is different for each type. Commercial interiors are more focused on functionality while residential interior designs are focused more on livability.

Residential Interior DesignLarge scale features in a room are essential to all interiors. For wall coverings, look for such things as texture, color and visual aspect. Lighter colors tend to reflect light while darker colors absorb it. For a small room, go with light walls and use darker colors for accent pieces. When choosing furniture, make sure you take scale and proportion into consideration and allow your personality to shine through with the finish and coverings. This will allow your room to achieve a harmonious balance.

Let your individuality shine through with accessories in a room. Lighting is a major feature in any area so take some time choosing yours. Window treatments should coordinate with your furnishings while still allowing you to play with fabrics, textures and styles. Accessories can make or break a room. Choose carefully to ensure an accessory fits the overall decor while still allowing your personality to shine through. By coordinating colors and finishes throughout a room, you can adhere to interior design essentials while still allowing the room to fulfill its purpose yet pleasing to you.

Sticking to basic interior design concepts is important no matter which project you are tackling. When designing a commercial interior design, organization and functionality will take top priority to ensure an efficient work area. Yet, the overall effect does not have to be stark and dismal. It can still be an area that people wish to congregate in just by following these principles. Residential interior design may actually be the more challenging of the two as you have to take into account what the room will be used for along with the personalities of all who will be using it. Yet with either type of space, by following these guidelines you can have an area to be proud of.Source URL: https://interiordesignq.blogspot.com/2010/11/

Organizing With Wire Shelving

Disorganized? Got household clutter? Hard to find belongings? If the answer is yes, then you may need some organizational assistance. One very effective solution is to use steel wire shelving which goes a step beyond traditional storage or furniture systems.

Steel wire shelving can go almost in any room in your home. It has a contemporary look that fits well in a kitchen, family room, home office, laundry, or bedroom. The open wire design minimizes dust build-up and allows ventilation for computers, stereos, and other electronic equipment. And in a basement or garage, where maybe the look is less important but storage capacity and accessibility are important, wire shelving is is terrific.

As a user of wire shelving in my home for over twenty years, this author has used InterMetro wire shelving with great satisfaction and can personally vouch for its robust construction, durability, and maintenance-free care. Indeed, InterMetro shelving is backed by a twenty-year factory warranty.

InterMetro wire shelving is constructed from 18-gauge steel with a weight load capacity of 500 lbs per shelf. Set up or break down is quick – no tools, nuts, or bolts are required. Shelves attach to the posts in one-inch grooved increments using pairs of plastic sleeves that clip around the posts onto which the round, cone-shaped corner collars of the shelf are seated. Leveling feet under the posts adjust to accommodate uneven floors, or you may easily replace the leveling feet with threaded casters to create a kitchen cart or mobile storage unit. With lots of standard shelf dimensions and post lengths, it is easy to create custom storage solutions. Many accessories are available that expand the functionality of the shelving, including wire baskets, drawers, hanger rails, and snap-on hooks. There also are third-party products for the shelving units including butcher block shelf inlays and plastic enclosure kits.

InterMetro wire shelving is available in three finishes: chrome, black epoxy, and white epoxy. Each finish is durable and resistant to chipping and moisture. Of the three finishes, chrome is the most popular. Each shelf, post, and accessory is available from open stock, plus many popular complete units are available in economically priced sets.

When the largest-sized InterMetro wire shelf (18 x 48 inches) isn’t enough, then wire shelves from the company’s commercial line of Metro SuperErecta wire shelves ranging in size up to 24 x 72 inches. As an industrial shelf used by hotels, restaurants, groceries, warehouses, factories, etc., the weight load capacity goes up to 800 lbs per shelf.

Who is InterMetro? InterMetro is an American manufacturer, headquartered in Pennsylvania, and part of the Emerson Group. Since the year 1929, the company has manufactured wire shelving, storage systems, and material handling products for hospitals, restaurants, supermarkets, and manufacturing and distribution facilities. Over 20 million wire shelving units are on the job throughout the world. Just imagine what InterMetro wire shelving could do for your home or office!

There are a couple of elements that you may finally vary, but there tend to be several in my professional recommendation of which happen to be not negotiable. Non-negotiable factors are usually any aspects which would certainly compromise the structural integrity, or maybe overall standard of the building. I am a building contractor who doesn’t believe in doing anything which may impact the structure ability to be able to tolerate and have long life.

3D Computer Programs

Can’t find a house plan or style that you like? Create your own. That’s what I did. There were so many house plans that I liked but I couldn’t decide on just one. I wanted to combine all of the best features of many plans into my own dream home design!

So what’s the next step? Well, you need to find a computer program that lets you design in 3D. Let me just tell you that there are tons of 3D software programs out there to choose from. I have tried them all. Some are free and some will cost you some money. The best free program to get started with is Google Sketchup. It is very user friendly and has many video tutorials that show you step-by-step how to create things. I have been using this program for a few months and there are still a few things that I am not sure how to do. It can be a little frustrating. It does help if you have some prior experience with 3D modeling.

Google Sketchup does have a Pro version for advanced users but it is quite expensive. I don’t recommend it unless you are pretty advanced.

Overall, the best and most user friendly software available is Punch! 3D Software. I was able to create a basic home design in literally 1 minute! It’s that easy. You won’t find an easier, more straightforward program to use. There are many different versions of Punch! but I have found the most recent version to be the best one and very affordable. Check out the website below and watch the video. You will see that it doesn’t get any easier than this to create your dream home! Have fun creating.

Refurbish Your House With These Amazing Interior Design Tips, Find Out The Secrets Professionals Use.

You don’t need to be a Faux Painting Specialist to come up with inspiration for home decorating ideas that mirror your personal style. Take it from the specialists!

Whether it’s for your 1st apartment or for the 1st time home buyer, home decorating inspiration and concepts can be located in all sorts of places! You do not have to have a degree in interior design or decorating – or a ton of cash – to deliver awe-inspiring designs in your own home. Successful decorating comes from knowing what you desire and what works, experimenting with what you don’t grasp, and being game to undertake different things.

If you are decorating your 1st house or apartment, you will find challenges galore! There may simply be specific areas that you need help with: “How do I organize furniture in a space that has too many doors and windows?” “I like color, but I’m scared to apply it to my walls!” “What is the right color scheme for this space?”

Fortunately, there’s loads of help out there to assist you and get you comfortable with decorating. Inspiration is everywhere! In addition to the countless home decorating magazines and the do-it-yourself websites that additionally offer helpful designing tips and secrets, there are other places where you’ll get a first-hand look at how the interior decorating specialists do it:

    * Furniture Stores: The good thing concerning furniture stores is that they’re tight on space! The upper end stores often have in house decorators who understand a way to use the smallest spaces in the most superb ways. Upscale stores like Pier 1 in Queensbury NY, (Rachel Ray’s favorite place). After you go to these stores, pay careful attention to the angles used for furniture arrangement, how and where the accent pieces are used, and also the cunning manner in which they use rugs, design, and color to make an explicit focus.

    * Catalogs: One of the most effective ways in which to be ready to check a space is with a catalog you actually like. Pottery Barn, as an example, includes a nice one, crammed with concepts on the newest furnishings, window treatments, and decorating accents for the entire house. Observe how they arrange artwork in the room, and how their pieces seem to combine both traditional and contemporary styles.

    * Model Homes & Open Homes: Whether or not you’re house hunting, model homes are a number of the best places to go for nice decorating ideas. Sometimes a builder will invest a nice deal of time and cash into making a showcase home, and you can get a nice hands on experience with how they use furniture, color, and light. (Also, you learn how they dress up the more traditional rooms in your home, such as the mantle, the foyer, the half bath, etc.)

    * Wallpaper Books: Sounds strange, perhaps, but those wallpaper illustration books in your local hardware store or design center offer nice ideas on home and interior style, and decorating inspiration that truly has no bounds when it comes to using color and texture in your home. Spending some time with them also makes choosing your wallpaper easier.

Once you recognize where and how to look for it, you’ll notice inspiration everywhere! When spending a while seeing how the pros do it, you’ll notice that you’ll be able to adapt those ideas to satisfy your own desires and accommodate your home, style, and budget!

Benjamin Moore 2012 Color Forecast from Yardley based, Interiors by Donna Hoffman

Here in Yardley, the forecast most immediately on my mind is not about Benjamin Moore's color forecast for 2012...18 months from now. Right now on my brain is how the weather will be for those attendees at the marvelous workshop I'm leading this Saturday at the annual Bucks County Day For All Women. It is equally as deliciously titled: Interior Grace: How to Create Authentically Beautiful Interiors. (11/6, 9am...held at the Bucks Community College Campus. Come on down). No where in this rich seminar, will I talk about color trends, but I know I will get a question on it.

    Ah...the trends!

As I guide clients in our work together to create stunning interiors with 10+ year staying power...I admit that I am not a trend-a-holic by nature. I watch trends carefully and with an evaluative eye. I keep fully informed about them. I respect the power of the trend, but I do not teach becoming a slave to them. Yet even with that, in the end, we are all naturally ensnared by trends to a point. That's becuase as a trend takes firm hold...the fabrics and furnishings readily available to the masses start to reflect that trend.
No where is that more obvious than in COLOR. For example....try searching the mass retail outlets to find a blue with a sweet green undertone to tie into a clients existing furnishings when the profusion of easy access fabrics contain the current trend of blues with a gray undertone. (The solution or course to spend more $$ by going upstairs in price point...in which case you can usually find what you need.) Trends will be trends.
So in respect to color trend, something that affects us all eventually...here's the 2012 Color Trend forecast from respected paint house, Benjamin Moore:

THE COLOR TREND SCOOP for 2012
This first part is kind of flowery so bare with me a sec. The impending color waves are expected to be "influenced by a cultural focus on Preservation, with four sub themes. They are: Heritage, Process, Protection, and Enlightenment." What exactly does this mean to the common woman? Not much. (Sometimes my wonderful industry makes me giggle...) So here's some accessable information for you to enjoy!
    2012 Color Trends with Meaning:
Firstly, the Ben Moore forecasters are predicting that in about 18 months, we'll be seeing color palettes that continue to be reflective the gray and brown scale that we've seen over the last few years but:
*Camel & Khaki become the new neutrals upon which richer hues can be layered as accents.
    Key Color-Family Trending:
    Red:
Walls and furnishings may see range of feminine reds and 'spot on oranges" all the way to softer vintage pink tones (soft, blush). Some highlighted Ben Colors: Candy Cane Red; Orange, Potpourri.
    Yellow:
The 2012 yellows will be golden and sunny, sometimes even in a lacquered shine vs. the previously seen matte finishes. Luminous blonde tones, honey and gold will also emerge. Look for Ben colors like Baby Chick, Hollywood Bold or Metallic Gold at one end of the spectrum and more neutral tones like Subtle, Buttercream Pearl and Turmeric or Bronze Metallic. (you getting the metallic thing here??)
    Green:
Lovely green will move to crisper shades, some teal-tinged but also safari and camouflage tones. (If we start painting the walls in camouflage patterns and upholstering furntiure in it...I'm leaving) Ben's forecasters are pointing toward colors like Fresh Scent Green, Pear Green or Winchester Sage to Dark Olive and Harbour Town.
    Blue:
The blue story will be one influenced by water and air in 2012...but offsetting these more chiffon colors we're told to look for charcoal and blackened navy hues. (Will somebody PLEASE call me to do navy walls in a dining room? I've been itching to for about 20 months...any takers??) A few colors to note from the forecasters: Palm Coast Teal, Gold Glory, Serenata and then the deeper tones like Deep Ocean, Mysterious and Gentlemen's Gray.
This is a tiny sampling of the full "PanSpectrum" put together by their team. For fun - print out this blog post and head to the Benjanmin Moore virtual fan deck and type in the colors above to see them. They're fun!
The final take-away is this: If you dislike yellow now - you're not going to love it by 2012. However....expect the colors you do love or resonate with ... to slowly morph and take on the tints and shades and undertones "of the day." You'll see this most clearly as you scan fabric stores, catalog pages and local retailers not to mention the photography in shelter magazines. In the end, design to what you love. Color is one of the most powerful ways to sculpt a space...and probably one of the greatest areas of error by many folks. Proceed with care!

Interior Design Styles

    Comparing Different Interior Design Styles
    By Ryan Frank

There are numerous different interior design styles, and they are evolving constantly as designers find nuances and invent variations, spinning off new trends of established stylistic traditions. As new styles emerge, older styles are tweaked and re-invented, creating a wide selection of decorative potential. When comparing different interior design styles, it helps to include a wide selection, taking the best of each to arrange a home design that uniquely fits your personality.

    Interior Design Styles
    Traditional

Traditional design generally combines 2 historic periods, 18th century European antiques as well as classical Roman/Greek décor. English antiques focus on Georgian and Louis XV styles, evident in richly colored porcelain, fringed lamp shades, colorful majolica and richly jeweled tones. Garden florals with hand-painted European motifs are also a popular traditional style.

    Interior Design Styles
    Contemporary

Contemporary styles were once thought of cold and minimalist, but are actually comfortable and welcoming. It's a simple style that avoids clutter, embracing modern approaches to style. Fundamentally, this style focuses on subtle sophistication, textures and clean lines. Color, shape and space are sleek and fresh with a minimalist décor that can be quite relaxing. Neutrals, black and white are the focus colors, though accents of bright and bold colors can be used to add dimension.

    Rustic

Comforting and relaxing, yet back to the simplicity of the earth, rustic decorating evokes all the charm of the great outdoors. It has all the appeal of a deep woods fishing lodge. Color and texture often come from the same palate. Neutral, natural earth tones evoke a hint of nature, as well as shades that occur in the weathered construction of timber and stone. Texture is important, using woods that aren't finely pained, making an art of imperfection.

    Retro

Cool, sleek and tipping its hat to the past, retro designs make an art of the unexpected. Rather than looking outdated and old, retro takes the best of past style and remakes it into something modern. There's a hint of wit to retro, a spin on the past that takes a creative approach. Timeless combinations of checkerboard patterns are popular, as are polished chrome, rounded corners, and red and white motifs reminiscent of a Coke ad. Funky designs of the '60s and '70s bring out the imagination with a modern twist. Retro thinks outside of the box by re-inventing the past.Source URL: https://interiordesignq.blogspot.com/2010/11/

Tranquil Scandinavian Style Interiors

When many think of Scandinavian style, they immediately think stark, white, modern and even unlivable. But thankfully Scandinavian style has emerged from bare beginnings to a much more livable arrangement. With white working as a color platform, many stylish homeowners have added black for a bold modern edge and hints of color that make their use seem bold and almost edgy. While still maintaining a basically blank slate, the new Scandinavian style seems focused on livability, whether it is in cluttering up streamlined shelving units, or rumpling a bed in an otherwise spotless room. Unusual accent pieces also make frequent appearances, from mistletoe-like ceiling hangings to excessively fluffy and fuzzy throw rugs. Sometimes only a single spec of color can be seen in a room, from a fusia toned bedspread or a softly muted sofa pillow. All photographed by Per Gunnarsson, the images below show how livable a modern Scandinavian-style living space can be.Source URL: https://interiordesignq.blogspot.com/2010/11/
