Residential Interior Design - How To Keep It Simple
    By Wade Robins

    Residential Interior Design

One of the major setbacks in a residential interior design project is not seeing eye to eye with the interior designer. There are homeowners who just don't know when to step back and allow the professionals to take charge of the project. Still, there are others who seem to give free rein at first but rant about the details when the project is almost done.

To make the residential interior design project a smooth and hassle-free one, you have to clearly delineate the roles from the very beginning. How much control do you want to wield? How much freedom are you willing to give your designer? Would you trust him with his own set of contractors?

Individuals who hire a professional for residential interior design must make it clear from the start how much freedom they're willing to give the designer in terms of decisions and relationships with contractors.

One common problem that arises with a number of residential interior design projects is that owners can't help but put in their two cents' worth once the contractors step in, and this may somewhat be distressing on the designer's part.

The owner should also agree with the designer on a reasonable time frame for the residential interior design project. It should be made clear that the plan is well laid out before actual work takes place and that budget limits are clearly set beforehand.

    Residential Interior Design

It is also important to set aside a portion of the budget to provide for contingency expenses. In addition, if the owner requests changes that were not initially included in the residential interior design plan, he must be ready to shoulder the expenses involved to carry out these modifications.

    Why Space Planning Is Important

In residential interior design, space is a crucial factor because a space that is too large or too small may drastically limit the possibilities of a desired residential interior design. Even existing doors and windows greatly affects the planned renovation, and covering these up or constructing new structures again involve an adjustment in time and budget.

    Residential Interior Design

Generally, residential interior design [http://www.1interiordesign.com/Interior_Design_Bathrooms/] project would involve furniture and fixture selection, color, space planning, and the more complicated plumbing and electrical wiring. It is, of course, easier to plan a residential interior design project with an empty room or house, but this isn't always the case.

In summation, undertaking a residential interior design project can be a very fulfilling task if guidelines are set down at the start. You will also be able to enjoy a more harmonious relationship with the designer if you spend time to consult with him and give him as much information as possible on the kind of outcome you are
targeting for your residential interior design.Source URL: https://interiordesignq.blogspot.com/2010/06/

Designing is easy, everything always flows and dollars for projects abound so I can literally design in any direction my heart chooses or that my instinct informs on behalf of my terrific client.

Wake up sleepy head! Snap out of it. Reality check: Budget drives design. You've heard that here before girls. Things like hard costs of raw materials, large amounts of required skilled workroom labor intermingled with existing home design elements that may or may not all be connected....these are the things from which designer neck aches spring...and also the fun of the challenge! (I love the work of my work.)

So - I thought it'd be fun every now and then to start letting you be an esteemed fly-on-the-wall on my various fun design challenges. (They're all fun..and they're all a challenge...) Read on to see if you can guess which way this
"Custom Window Treatments on a Tight Budget" project will go?

Project: Eating alcove in a kitchen, pictured above. 1 triple window and 2 singles envelop the table in this breakfast nook.

Client: is staying in her home for only a few years more. Home needs to be updated, but she is working on a tight budget in each area given all of the upgrades needed throughout the house. Landing these custom window treatments on the lower end of the budget is of high priority.
Client needs: Custom window treatments for the 3 kitchen windows pictured above. Design goals include:

    *Lifting the ceiling

*Making Kitchen in total look richer, to include cabinetry since we've decided not to update the cabinetry or counter tops.

*Need to connect the blue/tan story at the front of the house with the green/burgundy at the back of the house. house's color palette divides and shrinks the space.

*Within the custom world client needs to land these window treatments, along with some custom pillows for the family room on the lower end of the 'custom budget spectrum.

    The Plan/Solution:
*Value priced fabrics have been sourced that will either pull in the blue story from the front of the house or the tan/green/burgundy story at the back of the house. (fabric swatches shown here.)

*Window treatment designs are kept to their greatest simplicity to keep budget down (Simpler designs reduce labor and yardage needs.)

*Treatments will have no flourishes (choice #1 & #3 pictured below - and thus and least expensive) or few flourishes (choice #2 & #4 - but the more expensive option)

*Treatments to be build on dustboards, rather than on exposed rods.

*Treatments #1 & #3 will be about 'the fabric' - not the window treatment silhouette (least expensive option - choice #1 & #3)
Pictured below are 4 rendering from which the client chose...which way do you think she went?

    The options:

Option #1. Blue/Green/Tan Story - Ruched valence on a rod

Option #2. Green/Butter/Tan Story - Ruched valence on a rod

Option #3. Blue/Green/Tan Story - Soft Roman with self tie

Option #4. Green/Butter/Tan Story - Soft Roman with self tie

Washup: Washing Machine & Toilet Integrated

I smiled when I first saw the above picture. I've always thought there should be a better way to benefit from used water coming out from washer machines.

"Washup" is a conceptual design by Sevin Coskun from Turkey integrating washing machine with toilet flush. It suggests a sustainable water consumption by storing the wasted water in toilette-flush tank and reuse it with flushing. Moreover, "Washup" brings a solution for the problem of location of washing machines in small bathrooms, overlapping washing machine usage space with toilette usage space.

"Washup" is fixed on wall upwards toilet, so that loading of clothes would be easier for the user without bending or crouching. A special interface including three semi-sphere control units & two flushing buttons is designed for a practical usage of the product. "Washup" is a green product offering solutions for the problems of standard washing machines.

Wall Panel Design Examples that Beautify a Home

Many of us would not consider a wall panel in the design of our home. Generally, we think of paint being the most popular and easiest option. A wall panel system can really energize a room and give it a unique dynamic. The great thing about decorating walls is that it does not take away from the furniture in the room. Walls only add to the overall appeal and thus, you can be a bit more bold. I found these examples to be great idea generators about the possibility in your home. There is a gallery of images available at the ModularArts website that creates a lot of ideas. Website: here.

Clock Tower Treasures at America in Lambertville

Whether working on a client project - or just playing hookie for a little stress relief - Lambertville, NJ is a favorite go-to destination. Brimming with art galleries, antique shops, great vintage finds (in both clothing and home decor) - and may I say ...the Best Chicken Salad on Earth .(..at Sneedons...) escaping to Lambertville for a stroll is a little slice of heaven. And no trip to Lambertville is ever complete for this girl without a stop in to see the marvelous trove of art, furnishings, design finds and antiques found at David Teague's store, America.

America....My Store 'Tis Of Thee. It's a delish mix of the perfect eclectic blend of the striking, the beautiful and the fascinating - from 1940's French finds to American antiques & original furnishings, to vintage, to an array of 18th & 19th century art - (including paintings, sculpture, prints) - to my favorite... blow-your-decorative-mind clock tower treasures. (Spot any in this photo?)

Yes, you read that right: Clock Tower Treasures. Literally.

This exciting one of a kind collection of clock tower faces (dials), hands, pendulums and gears is just spectacular. Picture a clock tower in Europe (Spain, Italy, Portugal, France) or here in America that is either being torn down (ouch) or revamped. Where do those marvelous enormous dials in enamel, wood or bronze go? America. Clock faces or dials can range in size from a glorious 2' to 10' in diameter. These are statement pieces at their best.

How about those gears and pendulums? You'll see those there too - some in fine gold leaf covering hammered iron or molded copper. Striking! (No pun intended).

Dials start at about $3000+, but for the collector who wants something chic and break-out from the norm in their art collection - this is a place to hunt. And yes peeps - there are some finds to be found as well. I am still trying to decide how -and for which client - I could have used this pair of 1940's style low back chair. Great lines - a whif of Hollywood glam, great versatility - and at $1200 for the pair - a great deal!

The trick at America? Buy it when you see it. America has an ever rotating collection of finds so if you love it - buy it. It may not be there the next time you stop in.

Oh say, can you see? America...the beautiful. :)
